Frequently Asked Questions

What is 42?
42 is an AI-powered market news app built around two things:
Scores — proprietary FinTech scoring that turns each event and company into tangible numbers.
Information — a personalized platform to search, filter, bookmark, and get notifications on the news that matters to you.
Together, we help you better understand the stocks you already follow — and put new names on your radar.
Which stocks can I see in the app?
We currently cover all publicly traded stocks on the US exchanges — roughly 8,000 tickers across the NYSE and Nasdaq.
Support for ETFs, other securities, and additional markets is on the roadmap and will roll out in future updates.
What's in the Market feed?
The Market feed is a live stream of investment news events, ranked by importance and pulled from multiple sources. It refreshes continuously throughout the trading day, so you always see what's moving right now.
You can filter the stream by Impact or Duration scores to focus on the type of events that matter most to you.
What's in the Watchlist feed?
The Watchlist feed is your personal news stream — a live feed of events covering only the stocks you've chosen to follow.
You can also temporarily hide specific tickers from the view to focus on a subset of your watchlist without removing them permanently.
Can I search for a specific stock?
Yes — and it's fast. You can look up any US stock by its name, ticker symbol, or related keywords. For example, searching "Musk" will surface Tesla, and searching "iPhone" will surface Apple.
Tap any result to jump straight to that stock's page.
Is there a screen for an individual stock?
Yes. Tapping a search result or the company name on any stock event takes you to a dedicated screen for that ticker.
On the stock screen, you'll find the latest price, scores (such as News Sentiment, Latest Impulse, and Signal), the stock chart, and a feed of events for that stock only. From there, you can also add the stock to your watchlist or turn on notifications to stay updated on its latest events.
Stock event: What is the Impact score?
Impact is a score from -10 to +10 that measures how strongly a news event is expected to affect the stock's price — essentially, the intensity of the event.
We use color codes to make the direction and strength easy to read at a glance: green means bullish (strongly positive), amber means warm (mildly positive), teal means chilly (mildly negative), and red means bearish (strongly negative).
Stock event: What is the Duration score?
Duration measures the staying power of a news event — how long it's expected to keep influencing the stock's price. It falls into one of three buckets: Today (short-lived, fades within the trading day), Days (relevant for several days), or Weeks (lasting impact over weeks).
We use shades of gray to indicate Duration at a glance, with darker tones representing shorter-lasting events.
Stock event: What is the 42 Event?
Every news event in the app is classified by type and subtype — for example, Business · Major Contract, Leadership · Executive Change, or Stock · Abnormal Trading. There are roughly 100 event types in total.
This classification makes it clear at a glance what kind of event you're looking at, and it's also one of the inputs we use to calculate the Impact score.
Stock screen: What is the News Sentiment score?
News Sentiment is a score from -10 to +10 that reflects the collective tone of a stock's recent news events — how positive or negative they look when viewed together.
A positive score means recent coverage leans bullish, a negative score leans bearish, and values near zero indicate mixed or neutral sentiment.
Stock screen: What is the Latest Impulse score?
Latest Impulse is a score from -10 to +10 that captures how much the newest event stands out compared to the stock's prior sentiment — essentially, the surprise factor or momentum shift.
A large positive or negative value means the latest news is a sharp break from the recent tone, while a value near the News Sentiment score means it's in line with what the market has already been seeing.
Stock screen: What is the Signal score?
A plain-language label that combines all scores into a single takeaway. It's designed to give you a quick read on a stock's overall standing, without having to interpret each score individually.
Stock screen: What is the Stock Chart?
The Stock Chart is a visual timeline of recent events impacting the stock. Each event is plotted by its Impact score (-10 to +10), and its influence gradually decays over time based on its Duration — so short-lived events fade quickly, while longer-lasting ones stay visible on the chart.
This gives you an at-a-glance view of how news has been driving sentiment around the stock over recent days.
Can I get alerts for specific stocks?
Yes. You can subscribe to notifications for any ticker you want to actively monitor — just tap the bell icon on the stock's page to add it to your notifications list. You'll get push notifications when significant events are scored for that stock.
To manage or remove alerts, head to your notifications settings from the Account screen.
What are Breaking Impact Notifications?
When a stock's impact score shifts sharply in a short window, Premium subscribers get an instant alert — surfacing major moves the moment they happen, sometimes on tickers you weren't even watching.
Rare by design: you'll only see these when something genuinely significant is unfolding.
Can I save articles for later?
Yes. Tap the bookmark icon on any news event to save it, then find your full list under the Account tab in the bottom menu.
Note: Bookmarks are kept for one year from the date they're saved.
Can I share a news event with someone?
Yes. Each card has a share button that lets you share the event title and screenshot via any app on your phone.
Why do I need to pay for a Premium subscription?
42 is free to try, but a Premium subscription unlocks the full experience with no limits:

All content — including news, scores, and analysis — is provided for informational purposes only and does not take into account your personal financial situation, objectives, or risk tolerance.
Can I delete my account?
Yes — from the Account screen, you can request account deletion. The app will show you a confirmation and a scheduled deletion date before anything is removed.
Once the deletion is complete, we do not retain any personal information beyond what we're legally required to keep (such as limited billing records). Any remaining references in our systems are stored as hashed identifiers, so they cannot be linked back to you personally.
